I wanted to share some of Will and I's favorite date night ideas with you. Most, if not all, are based out of Cincinnati. Here's 25+:
For the Wide-eyed [It's all about the View]
The cool thing about cities is that they are all unique and provide different opportunities that other cities cannot give you. One of the things I love most about Cincinnati is Newport on the Levee and the Ohio River. [This is my favorite date spot!] Will and I have found a place there that we love most, and go very often. It can be free, or we can spend as much money as we like. We're always careful to park in the free parking spot wherever we can find one, even though it means walking a little further. Newport is filled with a bookstore that we love, lots of restaurants, an indoor mall, a Starbucks, an Aquarium, ice cream and candy stores, etc. It's all open and outdoor which is fun at anytime of the day. The best part is the view of the beautiful city of Cincinnati and we almost always take a walk that way, along the purple people bridge. Some days, we'll go to dinner and a movie. Other days we'll grab ice cream. And most of the time, we won't spend a dime. We'll head across the purple people bridge with some blankets, a good book, and lay out under the stars in the huge grass field across the bridge. You can't go wrong with a gorgeous city view, an evening walk, or just laying down and talking under the night sky. Perfection.
Enjoying a day at Newport!
Cincinnati view from Newport & along the purple people bridge .. Gorgeous!
For the non - Acrophobias
If you're a lover of heights, here's one for you! Carew Tower, in downtown Cincinnati, has an Observation Deck. 49 floors high and the 2nd largest building in Cincinnati. For just $2 per adult, you can check out the entire city of Cincinnati from above. Many other cities have their own version of something like this, and it's well worth it, cheap, and fun!
For the Seafood Fan
I"ve never been much of a fish or seafood person and for years I put off ever trying anything related to that. Then Will & I decided to go out and try some sushi... DELICIOUS! I encourage everyone to give it a shot! Many sushi places have half prices sushi all the time or even after a certain time of the day. It's not too expensive and it's really good. Plus, if you sit at the sushi bar, you may just end up getting a free dish like we did. ;)
For the Healthy
You can NEVER go wrong with Frozen yogurt.. healthy, cheap, and soooo delicious! My absolute favorite in the entire world is Yagoot, but there are tons of other ones all over America! So if you have an afternoon free or want a little extra snack after dinner, it's a great choice!
For the One's who like Crowds
Check out your town or city's local events coming up. Most have yearly festivals, carnivals, or parades. They're always free and also provide free candy, free music, and often have other booths and things set up to buy cool stuff.
For the Daring
Find the restaurants that are only in your city & eat there! They're usually more personal and have different types of foods than what the normal chain restaurants have. You can always count on a different type of experience at these restaurants. Plus, they often have weekly deals. Our favorite greater Cincinnati restaurant is "Keystone - Bar & Grill." Every Monday is half price mac n' cheese [the best you'll ever eat] so it's a great way to try different food than you're used to and to save money while doing it!
For the Sporty
Sports games are always entertaining, especially for the guy. Professional football games are usually more expensive, but professional baseball games you can find pretty cheap. Or catching a high school game in your area could be exciting and inexpensive. Just pick your favorite sport!
Training camps are fun too! I've been to Bengals Training Camp for many years and it's free and something new! You can watch players practice and get their autographs afterwards!
For the Aspiring Chef
Cooking together is always a great option ... You can stay at home & make exactly what you want. Guys love food so why not spent the evening making it together? Wear comfy clothes, turn on some music and get to cookin'! Plus you can make it as casual or fancy as you want!
For the Night Owls
Build a fire, bring your own smores, put together some campfire food, and snuggle up outside under the stars
For the Creative Minds
Pottery: The guys might not be as into this as you are, but maybe they'll still go along. Pick any piece of art & paint it together! Lots of Pottery Places give deals. The one we go to does 2 for 1 on Tuesdays and College students half off on Wednesdays. Plus, you get to take something away from your date and keep it to remember!
For the Athletes
Play tennis, soccer, go for a walk, or run a 5K together. There are lots of races in small towns and big cities, and it shouldn't be too hard to find one. You can do one that is for a charity or organization, or a fun one too. [The Color Run/ Color Me Rad - Tough Mudder - Flying Pig - etc.]
For the Introverts, Students, or Rainy Days
These dates are great for rainy days or days when you don't have energy to do much else.
Find your nearest starbucks or local coffee shop. You can grab a book or just spend the time sipping coffee [tea for me] or just chatting. Good for getting to know each other more or just spending a chill rainy day inside. If you're a student, it's also a good time to knock out some homework or extra studying you have to do.
If you're a big reader like me, going to a bookstore or library is fun too. Especially for introverts. Find a good book and spend a few hours reading next to the one you love.
Lots of bookstores also have a coffee shop in it which means you get the best of both worlds.
For the History Buffs
Museums are neat and usually not much $$ at all. A lot of them have specific showings or events happening so find one that interests you both and check it out.
During the Christmas season, Will & I go to the Creation Museum near Cincinnati. There are gorgeous lights, animals, and hot chocolate outside... And it's all free! During this time, prices to check out the inside of the museum are usually reduced so it's a good deal.
For the Cheap - FREE
Thanks to all the "national ____" days out there, there's a lot of cool free stuff. IHOP has free pancakes every year, national slurpee day, tax day freebies, national donut day, free Chipotle, (Halloween - Just wear a costume) national cookie day, etc. There are a ton of these days and certain restaurants give out free stuff on them! Click below for specific free food options!
Sometimes the best dates are the ones in sweatpants, curled up in a blanket together, and watching your favorite movie. Staying in is nice and it doesn't cost anything. Unless you want to rent a Redbox movie .. $1. Easy.
For the Friendly
Parks are EVERYWHERE. Even in small towns, you can swing or take a walk. My favorites are the one's in big cities with plants, walkways, gorgeous buildings, ponds, etc. We love going for walks, bringing a blanket and relaxing, having a little picnic, or even sometimes setting up a camera and taking our own pictures. All you have to do is google parks in your area and the nearest ones will come up. If you're ever in Cincinnati, check out Eden Park, Mt. Echo, or Ault Park. [My Favorites!]
For the Music Enthusiast
Catch an Orchestra, show, or musical near you. The price will range from cheap [High school play or musical] to more expensive, [Symphony] but sometimes it's worth it to get dressed up nice and have a night out. No matter which you choose to do, there are always lots of different options in order to find something that interests both you & your man.
For the Adventure Freaks
For the people who don't mind some tennis shoes, backpacks, and sweat, find a trail, mountains, woods, etc and go for a hike.
For the Astronomy Junkie
Everyone enjoys looking at the stars, but how much cooler are they in a telescope? A LOT COOLER. Find an observatory near you and check it out. They have events happening during the week and on the weekend that show different types of exciting things. We were able to see Mars and Jupiter and it was a cool experience and cost just $8 per adult. Worth it.
For the "Green" Lovers
Find a conservatory [plants, rainforest waterfalls, butterfly shows]or a botanic gardens near you.
For the Unique
Every town or city, no matter how big or small, has it's unique places... You just have to find them. There may have been something historical happen near you, or maybe there's something that is only special to your hometown. Will and I were able to find "The Root Beer Stand" near Cincinnati. It opened in 1957 and has been in Cincinnati's Top 100 Places. Great little spot to hang out and grab a delicious root beer or a nice juicy hamburger while sitting on a 50's stool. Find one near your hometown and make it a unique trip.
For the Cultural/Ethnic Admirer
Most restaurants we American's tend to go to are your typical American food chain places. So why not try some new food out? Try a Spanish, French, Indian, Ethiopian, etc. restaurant out for a change and experience some new types of food with your man. It's exciting and different. It could also be cool to find where your family is originally from and try those types of food out.
For the Easy-Going
Any type of markets, merchants, and shops are pretty cool. They're filled with people selling fish, deli, flowers, cheese, ethnic foods, and even antiques. You can pick out exactly what food you want and even maybe come out with a neat antique product. It doesn't have to cost a thing and it does no harm to do some walking around or helping some merchants make some money.
For the Holidays
The typical things to do on holidays with your family and friends can be the same fun things you do with your man.
EASTER - DYE EGGS
HALLOWEEN - CARVE PUMPKINS
JULY 4TH- SEE FIREWORKS
For the Spring time
Go to your local dollar store or Walmart, buy a kite, and spent your afternoon flying kites in your backyard or the closest park.
For the Nature Couple
Find a local State park, lake, or canoe rental place! Enjoy a relaxing setting and getting an arm workout too!
For the Fish Lovers
Check out your local aquarium - Especially if the weather is too hot, too cold, or too wet, it gives you something fun to do inside.
