We have been enjoying the warmer weather here in Lyon! Today was 60 degrees, the warmest it has been since October. We're excited for spring and have begun taking adventures around the city since the sun is back out and the temperature higher. Here's some of our pictures:
It hasn't been a snowy winter in Lyon, but it sure has been a cold one!
Here are some pictures of the only snow day we had. Unfortunately, it was gone after just a few hours but was beautiful on all the rooftops, and Joey was definitely a fan! The lakes also were frozen for a few days.
I'm really excited to share that in January I began my first "real" job here in France! Will's mom is an office manager at a software company in the city and really needed an assistant to help her out. I'm 6 weeks in and really thankful for this job. It is definitely testing my French, as she and my other co-workers speak to me only in French and I read and type all the documents in French. However, I am thankful that numbers are the same for both French and English! I'm also totally not opposed to all the fresh French crescents we eat for breakfast.
Galette des Rois / Kings Cake
This is a French tradition I love. Each year in January, the French families make/buy this special and super delicious cake. It was originally to celebrate the 3 Wise Men. It's fun because inside the cake is a small "fève." It can be an object, an animal, food, etc.
The family tradition is for everyone to gather together to cut the cake. The youngest person goes under the table and names the guests, who are then given their portion of the cake. The one who finds the fève in their piece gets to wear the King's crown. I got to do this 4 times this year and somehow never won. Maybe next year. ;)
